Case Messi, Football & Our Vision of Communication

Messi, Football & Our Vision of Communication

What does Messi, Football and our Vision on communication have to do with each other?

Communication should be as simple as in football.
Football has a very simple goal: put the ball into the end zone more than the other team (competition).
Everyone on the field knows this basic goal (communication). So when things go well, we know the goal: put the ball over the line. When things blow up, we all still know the goal: put the ball over the line.
- Dave Ramsey, from The EntreLeadership

When bringing this comparison to a workplace and a team, we have to ‘communicate’ this ‘basic goal’  to everyone who is involved.
In football, this is clear: put the ball in the goal.
In an organisation, it can be a bit more complicated than in football, but the clearer the message, the better.
Needless to say, you have to do more and better than your competitor to stay ahead of the market. At least, that should be your winning attitude, whether you're an athlete or an entrepreneur.

Look at football. No team starts the season to finish last.

Internal Communication

Most companies yearn for more and better communication, but few know how to communicate effectively. Whether you are a single entrepreneur or running an organisation with 5, 29 or 500 team members, communication should be simple and easy-to-understand, just like in football. Only then are people able to capture the message and achieve your desired goals.

We, at este, focus on constant communication.
Apart from the fact that we know from the competition that many of them have been messing up the system for a long time, we don't know much about them.  Why? Because we focus on the future and on our clients, not on the competition.  We do care about how you can beat your competition with a solution to learn from the talent hunt.  Only with transparent and open communication can we build a reliable relationship.

We spend a lot of time training our people to communicate better.
Because we have a diverse team, coming from all over the world, we have to cope with different cultural diversities. Therefore, it's important to understand each other why some of them say things differently from others.
We teach them how to interact effectively, how to ask better questions and how to become a better listener.

Moreover, this also applies to our clients. When they visit our office, they are immersed in a lesson in communication with different cultures.

Lionel Messi

Well, what does Messi have to do with all this?

This Barcelona superstar is the star of a new promotional video for Expo 2020 Dubai.  The Argentine forward and many other people are filmed passing a football around the world, starting in Dubai and taking in locations including the UK, India and Kenya.  The message is that the universal language of football can connect people across the planet and that we can achieve much more when we work together.

“A football team can only succeed by working together, and the same is true of humanity. When people from different nations, cultures and backgrounds come together we can better address global challenges and create a brighter future for generations to come,” Messi said.

A beautiful message that we can only agree on...

The first World Expo to take place in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, Expo 2020 Dubai kicks off in October 2020 for a six-month celebration held under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
